“One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.”
We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.

this has always been a favourite quote of mine.

God unshakable, Though storms may rise, Your promise keeps, How indescribable // Though valleys come, still You I seek
Come, Lord, come You are our light ahead In You I hope, in You I trust In You I’ll find my rest
Come, Lord, come Your spirit to guide our way Through any season, steadfast in Jesus, In you I’ll find my strength
All through the valley Your voice sings over me, All through provision and need, All through the desert my soul will sing of You
Get yourselves together. Shape up. You’re a nation without a clue about what it wants. Accept my discipline and correction. Jerusalem will be told: Don’t be afraid. Dear Zion, don’t despair. Your God is present among you, a strong Warrior there to save you. Happy to have you back, he’ll calm you with his love and delight you with his songs. The accumulated sorrows of your exile will dissipate. I, your God, will get rid of them for you. You’ve carried those burdens long enough.
happy to be on the way.
psalm 84 is one of my favourite psalms. It’s called my soul longs for the courts of the Lord. and that’s already a good word right there. but in verse five is where it really hits me: “blessed are those whose strength is in you, in whose heart are the highways to Zion. as they go through the Valley of Baca they make it a place of springs.” this section is about believers on a pilgrimage to Zion, on their way to worship. although they travel through the valley [assumedly a very dry place] they make it a place of springs.
they make it a place of springs. it’s not a place of springs. it’s dry and the terrain is probably rough and they’d probably rather be in Zion, but they make it a place of springs. the ESV study notes say, “they delight in this valley as much as if it were well-watered, being so happy to be on the way.”
being so happy to be on the way.
verse six continues, “they go from strength to strength; each one appears before God in Zion.” — at each level of the journey, each step through the valley, they find increasing levels of strength. for they know what waits for them at the end of the journey. and this is the God who waits:
“the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favour and honour. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you!”
i love the Word.
2 Corinthians 3:12, 17-19
Since we have such a hope, we are very bold… Now the Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another.
follow the yellow brick road...: The biggest thing I’m learning right now is that there will be times...
The biggest thing I’m learning right now is that there will be times of struggle. There’s going to be days where I’ll wake up feeling like crap; there’s going to be days where I’ll have no desire to pray or to read my Bible… It’ll probably never get to my head even though I’ve studied on this…
